Episode Post No. 8 (Saddle Row and Rec)

Welcome to another Episode Post, where I work feverishly to give you the best screenshots with the Discovery Family logo cropped out of them.

The reasoning for the lack of an Episode Post for A Hearth's Warming Tail is because I don't think I really have enough material for a post there.  Maybe at Christmas I'll cover it, but until then, I need to give it time to get the best opinion out of it.

I thought today's episode was Flutter Brutter, which I was looking forward to simply out of curiosity, but I guess I forgot we have a Rarity episode.  There was once a time where all Rarity episodes were universally good.  While I guess you could say this episode had a bit of everybody in it, this is Rarity's dream being expanded upon here.

Whether or not this one is good is really up to the type of person watching it.  Some people may not like this one, and I myself- along with quite a few others- enjoyed it.  Sure, the plot wasn't the best in the world, but sometimes a busy day with stuff happening somewhere makes for a nice watch.

Let's get into this.

The episode begins by trying to set up some suspense.

We see the ponies all running to Rarity's place in a hurry.

In case you want to know why, they exposition it out for you.  Here are some quotes I have-

"C'mon!  If we hurry, we can get there before the paper is even delivered to Rarity's house!"

"I'm pretty sure Rarity is going to read her review of her new boutique in Manehattan."

"I just hope it doesn't end up being an article about how her friends almost ruined the opening."

What they say here and how they act in this opening scene are to be remembered for later.  Not the worst exposition rush in this show, though.  I can say that much.

When they get to Rarity, she has a mean, stern face.  Seems she wasn't all that pleased with her article.  That gets my attention!  I wonder what possibly happened that was so ba----

No wait never mind.  They're doing the joke where she looks upset but she's actually eager.  Eager to read the article with her friends.

Her friends try to interject but Rarity strictly request for no spoilers in a clip that will surely be spammed all across the internet.

Cinccino is a terrible Pokemon in RU but remains in said tier due to idiots using it all the time.  If it were NU, it would be a great Pokemon with a good speed tier and a great ability in Skill Link.

Props for Rainbow Rocks turning her into a generic high school antagonist that we generally didn't like into the beloved mascot of Equestria Girls.

I found this adorable picture that teases us with an implied belly rub for pony Sunset.  Unfortunately, that's not happening here.  To quote the source-

Fleur Dis Lee is a very obscure character in the show who we seldom see and even more seldom hear.

She and Fancy Pants are like fuck buddies or something along the lines of that.

There needs to be more SFW of her.  I would have chosen another pic if the artist didn't leave a giant watermark in the middle of their picture.  Good for stopping thieves but pretty hard for others to appreciate the work when there's a signature right in the middle of the image.

Episode Post No. 7 (Keep Calm and Flutter On)

The limits are endless while we're waiting for the next episode of season six to air.  I've covered all of season six.  I think I missed some episode about something, but it's so bland and forgettable that I can't remember it.

I had a randomizer pick a number between one and five, then a randomly pick an episode number.  Keep Calm and Flutter On is the tenth episode of season three.  I think the reason I should point this out is because the last episode I covered that wasn't season six was also about Discord.

Keep Calm and Flutter On doesn't require much introduction, as it seems to be pretty well known.  While lots of people can recognize the flaws of the episode, the humor of it and the antics with Discord are the parts that we keep going to it for.

Without much more to introduce this episode off with, here we go.

It begins with two thirds of the main cast, as well as Spike, gathered in what I assume is on some hill outside of Ponyville.  Apparently that's the best place to meet up with Princess Celestia, who is arriving with an "important guest."  Pinkie got her hooves shined for it, and Rarity seems to stare at Pinkie's front hoof for a little bit longer than somebody else usually would.

Just a little bit....

Speculation begins on who Celestia's important guest might be.  Spike points out frightfully that it might be a guest that has a deer antler, a goat leg, a bat wing, and a snake tail.  To which Twilight replies with, "Yeah right.  That's Discord."

Now I don't know about you guys, but something seems a bit off with Twilight's reaction.  I'm not really an analyst on this stuff, so I can't say I can put into words why I think that.  It just feels a bit unnatural is all.

Minty Bubblegum is apparently her name.  Is she the Minty from generation three?  Reduced to a one-off background character?  Whoever she is, it's sad that she didn't catch on.

I have praised the color scheme before.  You've got that regular gum pink for her mane and a minty color for the rest of her coat.  I like it.

I'll probably continue to feature more ponies that are often forgotten about.

I have no idea at all why I forgot to feature Cadance.

Maybe because she's like the most forgettable princess.

Maybe because she was introduced as a princess.

Maybe she's just a little too perfect.

I don't hate Cadance, though...

Check the source out.  This is a relatively old picture and the artist has made Celestia and Luna versions if that's your kind of thing.  I just featured the Cadance one because... she hasn't been in a post yet.

Suri isn't really too popular....

Had to feature her at some point, though.

The way I see it, she's probably despicable, but the reality is that she- in a way- represents how people are just going to be rude in the real word sometimes.  She filled in her respective episode's role as a mild inconvenience well.

 

I looked for this one and made sure it was only safe stuff.  I have no idea how much NSFW Suri there is but I have a bad feeling about the potential amount of it.

And here we have a relatively recent Fluttershy pic where she appears to be in sauna of some kind.  At the very least, she's in some kinda of pool with flowers and all of those pretty things.

It must be really nice in there.  I like this one.  There's an alternate version in the source with a different colored background on the foliage.  You'll see it.

Episode Post No. 6 (Newbie Dash)

Newbie Dash grabbed our attention when the synopsis showed us that we would finally see Rainbow Dash get to become a Wonderbolt, a dream that happened at least two seasons later than it should have.  The catch was that she was to mess up and get called a terrible name.  I admit I originally thought Newbie Dash would be the name.

It's Rainbow Crash again.

I know I can come up with worse stuff than that overused name.

I could call her Animal Abuser for when she proved she would not be a good pet owner in season two or the Mare Do Well Wannabe.

That aside, it seems most people didn't really think much of the episode.  I mean, Rainbow joins the Wonderbolts and then what?

Well uh-

I guess we'll find out.

It should be pointed out that this episode is a first impression with a new writer whose name I've already forgotten.  I suppose I shouldn't go to overboard and keep in consideration that this is only his first contribution to the show.

Anyway, Scootaloo goes to Rainbow Dash and hypes over how the latter will be performing in the show.  Rainbow points out that she's still in the reserves, and that she'll only be performing if a substitute is needed.  Optimistically, Scootaloo points out that Dash will still be wearing a Wonderbolts outfit.

I like that optimism.  Sometimes small details can make an impact of some kind, be it big or small.

36 is a special number for me.  1936 was the year that my favorite animal went extinct is all.

Here's Rainbow Dash.

I was looking for three things when finding this one.

The first thing was a pic that was SFW, obviously.  The next was a pic of Rainbow Dash.

The third was underhoof.  I'm not saying I have some hoof fetish or anything but underhoof is just so cute....

Rainbow Dash is probably reading some sort of witchcraft like Pennroyal Academy or something.

There's a decent sum of foalcon for Twist on Derpibooru, but I managed to find this one, which I liked because it meant I could also knock Mrs. Cake out of the picture.

I felt like I should feature Granny Smith since she isn't a popular character and that if I don't do it now, I may end up forgetting later.

I could NOT find any fan art of Granny Smith at all.  Maybe animated .gifs from the show or pictures of her younger self, but I wanted one of the more recognizable Granny Smith.

This is by far the best I could find.

Zap apples are admittedly pretty cool.  Looked fine to me until I saw the worm.

If it were me, I'd sell the apple anyway.

Episode Post No. 5 (No Second Prances)

No Second Prances started out with a late synopsis, meaning for a while, all we had was the title.

It sounded like it would be a Fluttershy episode, to be honest.

Turns out it happened to be a Starlight episode.  Which is good, we need more Starlight if we're going to assimilate her into the show.  The worrisome part was that the synopsis said that Starlight was going to make friends with a formerly bad pony, but Twilight was going to try to stop her.

Now, with formerly bad pony, all of us kinda knew it was Trixie.  Starlight and Trixie?  That sounds great; they've got stuff like backstories in common and they'd play off each other very nicely.  But the part with Twilight and the way the writers see Trixie as a vengeful antagonist were a bit shaky.

With Twilight, it would be bothersome that she would end up becoming very cynical.  After all, she had a nice resolution with Trixie at the end of Magic Duel.  For Twilight to prevent Starlight from becoming friends with Trixie would not only be cynical of her, but it would also mitigate that endearing ending at Magic Duel.

On the other hand, Trixie may just end up making friends with Starlight just so that she can get on Twilight's nerves.  Basically, Trixie would want to make Twilight look bad.  Sorta like... I don't know... some previous instance we've had on the show before.  Then it would end with the moral being that you can't trust everyone you meet.  Twilight would end off looking cynical throughout the episode without learning anything, Trixie would be in the wrong, and Starlight would end up without a new friend.

But then I see Nick Confalone is writing, I remember that I liked his work with Hearthbreakers, and while Party Pooped was sub-optimal, Pinkie was really good in that episode.  Only time would tell.

I hope you like reading, because I have a decent amount to say.

Let's get to it.

The episode begins with Twilight and Starlight setting up the table for a dinner they'll be having that night, which leads to an unfunny silverware gag that recurs throughout the episode.

The dinner is important because Celestia is visiting to see how far Starlight has come in her friendship lessons.  Twilight sees it as more of an opportunity to show Celestia how good of a teacher she is.  Starlight asks why there's an extra seat when it's just going to be her, Twilight, and Celestia, Twilight explains that Spike is joining them as well.

Never mind, Twilight says that the whole point is for Starlight to bring a new friend.  Twilight does say Starlight can be friends with anypony she wants to, so with that, Starlight heads off to try and make a new friend.

That aside, here's an old Sweetie belle pic.  I could complain how I have no idea how she's holding the stick, or that her ears are probably a bit small for her head, or that her horn looks like a white cone stuck on her head.

But nah, this pic's good enough.  Right down to the fluffiest Sweetie Belle I've seen in a while and the cute position the artist put her in.  Enjoy this one.

There was no source provided on Derpibooru for this one, I'm afraid.

Here's the first image chronologically uploaded under the Princess Luna tag.  Once again, it seems that when I try to put in a princess, Pinkie happens to slip in there as well.

I felt like Luna today because I sympathize with her banishment to the moon.

Episode Post No. 4 (What About Discord)

This post was created on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016.  Today, there was no new episode of season six aired today.  But that's okay, because I can't still make do with a whole bunch of other episodes to form an episode post out of.  I could have chose The Crystalling, which is an episode of season sic that aired before the idea of episode posts came to my head.  I could have chose Amending Fences, which I could endlessly praise as my favorite episode as the show.  I could have even chosen Double Rainboom if I wanted to.

Instead here's What About Discord. 

We begin with Twilight taking time to herself to sort some books.  Some might say it's adorkable, some might say it's an annoying attempt to keep Twilight in-character.  I don't think there's any harm in Twilight taking three days to herself to do something she wants.  

Why would there possibly be anything wrong with that???

A quarter of a hundred posts in and I realize I have no Celestia pictures.

Looking for them on Derpibooru is painful.  You really have to look between a bunch of memes and smut.

But this one looks amazing.

And if you like Pinkie Pie, she's in this one, too.  I don't know why.  But it's all very cute.  The art style is gorgeous as well.  Go to the source; they have some other good stuff, too.

No new episode for today.  No Second Prances is coming soon, and I'm kind of skeptical about it.

This is Derpibooru's millionth image uploaded.  It all comes together as Trixie, which means that all of the fandom combined equals Trixie.

And in case you can't tell, if you go to the source, you can zoom in a whole bunch extra and look at each individual image.

So whether or not you've seen this image, Derpibooru's been past the one million mark for a while now.  Either way, I could go through this image for dozens of minutes.

And I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted.

So today, I was thinking Tree Hugger.

For a while, all I could find were the same old pictures of her posing in On Your Marks.

Instead, I wanted something different.  I found this shipping picture, but if you're not a fan, you can just assume it's some close friendship.

I don't think I've used Rarity yet.

Here's another piece from 2012, featuring her in a Gala dress.  The Grand Galloping Gala in the show has never been as special as it should have been.  They have all of this buildup and it ends up being a gathering for rich people.  Which Celestia willingly ruins for her subjects because she was bored of it.  No "Trollestia" excuses are really going to make me happy with that.

Back to Rarity, ever since her friends made her that dress in Suited for Success, she's been wearing it to big events ever since.  It's really endearing, as Suited for Success was probably my favorite season one episode, right down to her friends making it up to her by working on their own dress for the friend that went through so much for them.

I suppose I felt chattier today.

Minuette's probably one of my favorite background characters.  With a great, friendly personality and all-around cuteness to her, I have a nice old soft spot for her. 

Interestingly, according the artist:

"The pose came from cats and dogs.  When I see my dog doing this, I thought it would be so adorable if ponies do this."

Yeah, my cat will do that if he's full-out exhausted.  I think I've seen the dog do it, too.
