Episode Post No. 2 (On Your Marks)

Time for another episode post.
It's about On Your Marks!
On Your Marks wasn't half a bad episode.  As with last time, I'm just going to share some screenshots, give my thoughts on elements of the episode, pretend you care, and be on my way.

Starting off with a picture of the Cutie Mark Crusaders themselves.  Good to know that we finally have a follow-up episode with them deciding what their goals should be now that they have their butt stickers.

Gum Pony really got me.  There's a lot of charm, right done to her design.  A recolor, but the colors here are really good.  A gum-pink mane with a minty coat.  The show has always been good with color schemes.  Well, maybe except for King Sombra.  That aside, isn't it weird how a pony's calling in life could be gum?

In addition to Bulk Biceps's scene in the episode being quite amusing, the smushed faces were nice to see as well.  Even nicer was the episode's use of the face Scootaloo has.  They always look so silly with their dimples going to their eyes.

The song in this episode was decent, but didn't stand out.  No where near as emotional as the other calmer songs, and that's because the song basically just jumped in and said, "Oh yeah, Applebloom is feeling lonely now."  But the scenes in it were nice.  Of course, Berryshine smashes grapes.  This means either grapes are grown at Sweet Apple Acres or that Berryshine has her own fruit ranch of some sort.

Applebloom is an amazing painter.  It's just that painting with your mouth is the wrong approach.  As Jim confirmed at a convention, Tree Hugger was to appear somewhere in this episode.  A part of me hoped it would be for a speaking role, but I knew it would just be the equal of last week's Suri cameo.

Applebloom seems to get interested in dancing, and she's okay at it.  Her legs were so full with energy that she managed to dance afloat for a few seconds before gravity kicked in.

And perhaps the best part of the episode was this kid, Tender Taps.  He is addressed by his name once in the episode, and some people may not have caught it because of his instructor's accent.  He's a good solo dancer, and he becomes the second (or third counting Bulk Biceps) pony that the Crusaders help.  He's the first pony that gets his cutie mark as a result of their services.

I understand that he looks like Scootaloo in this picture, but remember that he's got the purple tail.  I feel his conflict could have used some more focus instead of a song and some debatably-filler at the beginning.  He's a good kid though, I hope we get see more of him

Alright, there's a better pic of him.  With his cutie mark and everything!  He shows off his butt to two passersby, one of them apparently being really good with dolphins.  I also put in Applebloom's butt in for you guys.

And that's it for today's episode post.  Next week is the Gauntlet episode.  Presumably, it's a Spike episode, and I have no idea what to think of it.  I doubt it'll be great, but I wouldn't know.  This episode overall gets a B in terms of letter grades.

Catch you later.
